'Kurochiku' Bamboo Ceiling- Machiya House Features
Although you’ll find bamboo throughout Japan, Kyoto is especially known to have many bamboo groves throughout the city. Because of Kyoto city’s shape (it’s a basin), and it’s natural climate (hot summers, and cold winters), it’s the perfect place for bamboo to flourish!
The Japanese house pictured here is inspired by Kyoto’s many bamboo forests. If you look up at the ceiling of the Japanese room, you’ll notice that the ceiling is completely covered in bamboo! The black color is not painted, but is in fact natural as this is the “kurochiku” bamboo variety. It starts growing as green, but after 1~2 years, transforms into an elegant black bamboo!
Enjoy elements of bamboo during your stay in Kyoto City at ‘Yoinotake’ Machiya House!
