'Okudo-san' Style Kitchen - Machiya House Features

Cooking might be the last thing on your mind when traveling, but how could you not want to cook when you have a kitchen like this? The kitchen of this kyo-machiya house features a kitchen reminiscent of a Kyoto traditional “okudo-san” (cooking stove with hearth).

In the Kansai region of Japan, people often add “o” and “san” to nouns. A type of rice dish called inari becomes “o-inari-san,” beans known as ‘ma-me’ is renamed “o-ma-me-san,” etc. Hence the kitchen “kudo” is often called “o-kudo-san” only in the Kansai region of Japan!

To experience this “okudo-san” style kitchen in your own private traditional Japanese house, be sure to reserve a stay at ‘Shakudo-an’ Machiya House.
